The Gallatin River, Sheep Rock
We're finally getting some spring-like weather in southwest Montana. The last few days have been ideal for doing some fly fishing on the local rivers. The Gallatin River near Sheep Rock was particularly beautiful today. All along the river, little snow melt rivulets were emptying into the river. The river looks great now; but, I figure in a few more weeks, The Gallatin will be heavy with snow melt. The muddy, snow melt water can last until early July too.
So, if you're planning on fly fishing the Gallatin River, then you should either plan on doing it within the next few weeks; or, delay your trip until early July. If I were a betting man, then I would plan that summer trip for the second week of July.
