From April 20th to April 28th, 2024, it’s National Park Week! The National Park Service is encouraging everyone to explore their favorite National Park this week.
In southwest Montana, our favorite park is Yellowstone National Park; and, fortunately it will be open that week.
According to the National Park Service road map, the North and West entrances will be the only two open during National Park Week. There will still be plenty of stuff to see in The Park, however.
Roosevelt Arch, Gardiner, Montana
For the past few years, I have documented my own visits to The Park with plenty of photos and videos posted on this web site’s Explore Yellowstone National Park page. Feel free to use the page and its Google Maps to make your own ‘Must See’ list. For now, concentrate on the northwest section of The Park, where the open roads will be.
Mammoth Hot Springs
Mammoth Hot Springs, Gibbon Falls, the Lower, Mid, and Upper Geyser basins, including Old Faithful, will all be available to view.
Old Faithful
Mid-April is actually the perfect time to see the geyser fields as well as some of the wildlife, including bison and elk. The crowds of people are usually pretty small; and, in some instances, you may find yourself all alone on one of the boardwalks witnessing a geyser erupt.
Dress warmly for the outing. The snow might be gone in your neck of the woods; but, in Yellowstone, at this time of year, there will still be some snow on the ground.
